Z

Do you know the chain store Z ? Well, I thought I did and to tell you the truth, all I knew was that their clothes were too cheap with no style at all ! But they have changed the visual identity of their brand and the look of their stores for a nice "boutique look", so one day I gave it a shot and realised how much I was wrong about Z !!! You can see for yourself on their new website that recently integrated an online store. I found there a real variety of style such as "Designer, Denim, Romantic, Sportswear, Summer, ..." for kids from 0 to 14 yo. From now on, I'll keep an eye on their collection !
Historical brand of the Zannier group, Z also became an international chain with 480 stores (in France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, ...). They are the current global leader in kidswear with 20 brands developed in own name stores or under licence. For the past forty years (since 1962), the group has asserted its positioning with strong internal growth and major acquisition operations. It now has a brand portfolio that allows it to cover all market segments in children’s fashion: Absorba, Alphabet, Catimini, Chipie, IKKS, Confetti, Jean Bourget, Kenzo, Little Marc Jabobs, ...

SHOP Le Chat Botté

With La maison de Colette, I missioned myself to look for great design, toys and clothes for kids. While developing this blog, I realised that I could as well offer a tour or a selection of shops dedicated to kids in Geneva and its surroundings.
Let me then introduce you to Anne-Marie Zweifel who welcomed me in her shop Le Chat Botté at the heart of Carouge - Rue Saint-Joseph 2, Carouge. Entering her little boutique feels like entering a kids room filled with toys, teddy bears, dools, wood construction games and stuffed animals displayed, literally, from the floor to the ceiling.
Anne-Marie believes in the educational strengh and the quality of timeless toys so expect to find only the best at Le Chat Botté. She keeps a close eye on the origin of her products and the organisms of quality control in China (quality label Spiel Gut for example). Her product selection goes from Haba and Sigikid for their first age rattle and "comforter", to Trauffer and its farm with wood animals and Kösen, Steïff, Teddy Hermann and Robin Rives for their quality bears.
My favorites are the Haba fruits and vegetables and the Kösen stuffed animals so friendly and yet realistic looking, see the Siberian Chipmunk that I photographed.
Anne-Marie would certainly agree with this quote "For children, only the best is good enough" from Margarete Steiff.

Mio Mao

Looking for quality shows for our daugter, my husband remembered Mio Mao. Do you ?
Mio Mao was an Italian animated television series for children based on the adventures of two cats. It was filmed in claymation animation (using stop-motion with plasticine figures) and was written and directed by Francesco Misseri with music by Piero Barbetti, produced by Mad Mouse Movies. Listening to the theme tune brings back the memories: ‘mio mao mio mao lalla lalla là’ check it on YouTube. I'm also a big fan of their onomatopoeic language which sets the show beyond all barriers - in a truly worlwide perspective !
The first series of Mio Mao was made in the seventies. Each episode is approximately 5 minutes long and focuses on two playful kittens Mio (white) and Mao (ginger), as they discover a variety of animals and objects hidden within their garden. The scenario is simple and predictable as the kids like it: the kittens go to investigate alone, and return scared, before going together and finding that the scary item was either a friendly animal or a fun object. The animation is genius in itself, very visual and creative.
It was first broadcast in France 1979 (Antenne 2/ Récré A2) and lately at the animation Festival of Annecy 09, France.
Two new seasons available: Associati Audiovisivi and FIVE teamed up to give new life to this animation series but I can't tell you where to buy it at this point.
You might also like Quaq Quao (first broadcast in Italy in 1980), filmed using stop-motion with origami figures and was also written and directed by Francesco Misseri.
